Beñat Intxausti chooses Euskadi-Murias

The Euskadi-Murias Professional Continental team has announced today their first signing for the 2019 season: Beñat Intxausti (1986). The Basque climber will provide Jon Odriozola’s young squad with his experience next season.

The rider from Biscay is aiming to be one of the references of the team thanks to his successful experience as a pro rider, after 12 years in the pro pelotón. Intxausti comes to the team to contribute to their success next season, after a stunning 2018 season in which the Basque team got 9 wins and over 30 podium spots. The team’s management is feeling absolutely confident about Beñat’s quality and aptitude.

Beñat Intxausti:  “I'm feeling good now and I'm looking forward to the future. I believe in this project, our project, the leading project in Basque cycling, and I know the team is working towards the future by progressing step by step and treating young Basque riders with care. The team is building a place among the best teams every year, and they have been especially great in 2018, after achieving really important results. That’s why I'm betting on this team.”

Jon Odriozola: “For us it’s really important to have Beñat Intxausti with us next season. He’s among the best Basque riders in spite of having had two bad last years, but we want to work with him in order to achieve great results.”

Beñat Intxausti is a two-time Giro d’Italia stage winner — and he has also achieved good results in races like Tour of Beijing, Tour of the Basque Country (with a second place overall), Romandie, Dauphiné, Poland, Andalusia or Burgos. He has competed in 10 Grand Tours — with his 8th place in 2013 Giro and his 10th place in 2012 Vuelta a España as his best results ever.

His pro teams have been Grupo Nicolás Mateos (2007), Scott-American Beef (2008), Fuji-Servetto (2009), Euskaltel-Euskadi (2010), Movistar Team (2011-2015) and Team Sky (2016-2018).

The Euskadi-Murias team is racing their last competition of the season this week with Tour of Turkey.
