Trofeu Agostinho: Barthe, 9th in the prologue
The Euskadi-Murias ProContinental team have had a good start at GP Internacional Torres Vedras-Trofeu Joaquim Agostinho (2.2, Portugal), as Cyril Barthe and Julen Irizar made it to the top-15 in the prologue stage.
On his return to the competition after a broken collarbone, Barthe (1996) achieved a top-10 spot (9th) in the eight-kilometer time trial in Turcifal. Also, Irizar (1995) was 15th. Mikel Aristide made his comeback to the competition in Portugal, too, after his scaphoid fissure, and ended up 28th. Gotzon Udondo (29th), Sergio Rodríguez (34th) and Ander Barrenetxea (61st) are the other three Euskadi-Murias riders in Portugal, under Rubén Pérez’s direction. Rafa Reis (CJR) took the win.
Jon Odriozola, sports manager of the team: “After being injured, it’s good news that Cyril is back to the competition with good results. Now we have three stages left in which we will keep on getting in shape and fighting as we have done during the whole season.”
The second stage, Ventosa - Sobral Monte Agraço (162 km), has a hard, climbing final.
