Stunning win in Turkey for Edu Prades and Euskadi-Murias

Edu Prades has gotten the final win for the Euskadi-Murias ProContinental team at Tour of Turkey, a WorldTour race in which Jon Odriozola’s squad has completed the extraordinary 2018 season.

In an exciting and spectacular end of the sixth stage, ending in Istanbul, Prades has been second just behind Sam Bennett (BOH). Thanks to the time bonuses earned, he reached the first place in the overall. The team directed by Rubén Pérez was brave during the stage and their courage was rewarded. Mikel Aristi, Fernando Barceló, Ander Barrenetxea, Sergio Rodríguez, Enrique Sanz and Beñat Txoperena, who was in today’s breakaway, were the six teammates who worked for Prades during the whole race.

This has been a Tour of Turkey with nine WorldTour squads, Astana, Bahrain-Merida, BMC Racing Team, Bora-Hansgrohe, QuickStep, Team Katusha-Alpecin, Team Sunweb, Trek-Segafredo and UAE Team Emirates, as well as ten Professional Continental teams. In the GC, Edu Prades beat Lutsenko (Astana) by less than a second. Haas (Katusha-Alpecin) was 3rd at 4 secs, Ulissi (UAE Team Emirates) 4th at 4 secs and Felline 5th at 6 secs In five of the six stages, Euskadi-Murias had a rider into the top-10 of the stage: Enrique Sanz 7th and 8th the first two days, Aristi 10th in stage 3, and Prades 3rd in stage 4 and 2nd in stage 6.

Jon Odriozola, sports manager: “Being humble we have been able to achieve in a year the same Euskaltel-Euskadi got in ten seasons, working very hard and having much fewer resources. We have won at Vuelta a España. We have won a Hors Catégorie stage race. We have won a WorldTour stage race. We show the name of Euskadi on the roads all around the world and we represent the Basque Country. It’s time for people to understand that — and now we have to require them a recognition and their support to our project. Thanks to the hundreds of supporting messages and to every sponsor we have. We will keep on taking this project to the top but of course we will need everybody’s support.”

Rubén Pérez, DS: “This is insane. The team has done an impressive work during the whole tour. Today everybody worked super hard for Edu. We knew we had the chance of winning the race and we fought for it as strongly as we have done during the whole year. And we did it. Once again, our team makes people dream. Reaching our challenges is possible. What we have done this season is amazing. Now we have to enjoy our holidays and to start thinking about next season. From Turkey we ask everybody for their support, because this projects is worth it.”

Edu Prades: “I knew the end of the stage from previous years. Time bonuses were important and I fought for the best possible position. My idea was to attack earlier but I had to wait until the end, but everything was perfect. I was afraid of crashing and luckily I didn’t crash. Winning was very difficult and I even told the team they shouldn’t bet on me as there were lots of sprinters. This is an amazing win for the team, in a WorldTour race.”

Tour of Turkey has been the last race for Euskadi-Murias in an impressive season with ten victories with nine riders and 36 podium spots. Óscar Rodríguez’s win at Vuelta a España and Prades’s victories in Norway and Turkey will always be remembered.”
